PEARCE'S MEDICAL FUND

Pearce update... we did an ultrasound and it showed that Pearce's intestines were twisted up and had created a ball. The vet said it was 1 of 3 things:intestinal worms, fungus or cancer. Since he was only a year old, we  really did not think it would be cancer... but it was. Heartbreakingly, we had to let him go. We cannot begin to express how devastated we are about this. We truly hoped to give Pearce the love, care and forever family he so deserved. We have spent a total of $8,000 trying to save this precious life and some people may feel we were irresponsible to spend so much money trying to save the life of one dog but once a dog is a Lu's labs dog, they are family. If we had not done the surgery and he had died from worms, then we would not have been able to live with ourselves. He was a Lu's Labs dog and we don’t quit on our family. We have raised $3500 so far and greatly appreciate that support. We understand if you don't feel comfortable donating now but if you do, we would truly appreciate it. We must be able to move on and continue to save dogs that deserve a fighting chance, just like Pearce did.

========================================================

We were alerted on Easter morning about Pearce and jumped to give this boy an Easter miracle. He had arrived at the shelter very emaciated and weak.

Pearce was transported to Wake Urgent Care in Knightdale, NC where he  presented with malnutrition, dehydration, labored breathing and bloody diarrhea that include part of his intestine sloughing off. He was immediately started on fluids, antibiotics and anti-nausea medications. At the time, he was given a 50/50 chance of survival.

On Monday, Pearce began receiving blood transfusions to help with his low red cell count and sugar to elevate his low glucose levels. This seemed to help, and things were looking up, although he remained very lethargic and seemed depressed.

His glucose levels are now dropping and we have had to transfer him to Emergency Services at North Carolina State as they are better equipped to deal with what is happening with Pearce. So please, keep him in your thoughts as we are going to make sure everything is done that can be to save this boy!

Pearce's Vet bills have already exceeded $5000 and growing, as he still has a long road ahead of him. Will you make a donation to help with his medical bills?
